Cary Loftin Was The Greatest Hollywood Stunt Driver of All Time

carey-loftinWhen watching a classic movie, such as The Love Bug or Diamonds Are Forever, you can’t miss the great stunts that were performed by the greatest stunt driver that ever existed in Hollywood.  Although he is no longer living, passing away at the age of 83, his stunts will always be remembered as being the best in any movie that was ever made.

Traveling with a stunt show when he was nineteen started Loftin’s career that didn’t stop until he was near the end of his life.  He was very athletic as a child which was one major reason for his acrobatic nature on the motorcycle.  Cary Loftin followed stunt shows for many years when he was young which helped him to perfect his skills.  Just riding the bike could never be enough for this Hollywood star who managed to make his mark with many well known movies.  Although many people may not realize who was behind the wheel in some of the better car chases the movies have to offer, Loftin was able to make so many scenes seem much more realistic than they were ever hoped to be.

While contributing to the success of many films, Cary Loftin’s face was not seen in many of the scenes he helped create.  He had many notable performances including a car chase in Against All Odds which was filmed in 1984, Duel filmed in 1971, and Days of Thunder in 1990 when Loftin was 76 years old.  Even at such an old age for a stunt driver, his stunts were spectacular sights and even better on the big screen in the theater.

Some of the best car chases in the movies were the work of this mastermind, from the stunts he performed himself to the ones he coordinated, he will always be known for his excellent work.  Cary Loftin passed away in 1997, but his work lives on forever in the movies and in the hearts of many.  He has been honored in many ways, including the induction to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2001.  Although he died of natural causes, the many amazing stunts he performed could have easily taken his life, but instead they just kept audiences everywhere mesmerized.

Stunt Driving with Jeremy Fry

jeremy_frySummer is here and so is the season for summer action blockbuster movies from Hollywood.  Every year, when summer comes, we highly anticipate what action movies will come out to the theaters, but what we don’t take into consideration is who will be doing the movie stunt driving for the film?  We always talk about what actors and actresses are playing in the film.  We might even discuss who the director is, but rarely does anyone discuss the stunt actor or driver.

The most notable movie stunt driving is done by one man that if mentioned in conversation, no one would even recognize the name.  But if you mentioned some of the Hollywood feature films he’s driven for, you would realize that this man is almost a legend in the movie stunt driving arena and this man’s name is Jeremy Fry.

Though not a lot of personal information is known about Jeremy Fry, we do know that he has won two World Stunt Awards, two years in a row for his work done in The Bourne Ultimatum in 2008 and for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2007.  Both notable films for their action sequences.

Some of his more famous works have been The Race to Witch Mountain, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Get Smart, Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets, to name a few.  Not only is Jeremy Fry working in the movie stunt driving genre, he also works as a stunt double for actors and also does the stunt coordination in other films and many television shows.  He done stunt work for the television shows Alias, Boston Public, The O.C., Heroes.  One other popular television show he consults on is Fear Factor.

Jeremy Fry’s work in movie stunt driving and stunt work is incredibly important.  Without his expertise and input, many people’s lives could be in grave danger, but with his help and coordination, not only are actors and crews safe, but the crowds are highly entertained during their action packed blockbuster film.  At the next awards ceremony, make sure to think of Jeremy and all his hard work.
